Small packing areas often run out of bench space before they run out of anything else. The bench holds the scale, the tape dispenser, the label printer, the computer, and the box cutter. There is a spot for the product, a spot for the carton, and a spot for the finished package. When the decision is made to add a cardboard shredder, the first question the team asks is usually the same. Where is it supposed to go.
This is a real constraint, not a small detail. A kartonschredder that sits in the wrong place slows the packer down every minute of every shift. It gets in the way of the scale, forces the packer to step out of the work zone, or blocks the path to the finished packages. The machine can be the right choice and still fail because the space was not planned. The answer is not always to buy a smaller machine. Sometimes the answer is to rethink the bench itself.
The first thing to examine is what is actually on the bench. Most packing stations accumulate items over time, and some of those items are not used on every order. A second tape dispenser, a spare scanner, a stack of old shipping documents, a label roll that does not fit the current printer. Clearing those items is the cheapest way to make space, and it often frees more room than expected. The packing team knows which items are needed and which are just there. A ten minute conversation usually reveals a few items that can be moved.
The second thing is the bench layout. The bench is usually arranged in the order the packer works. Scale, box, fill, seal, label, and out. The shredder belongs at the fill step, which is between the box and the seal. If the machine sits anywhere else, the packer has to move out of sequence. The goal is to place the machine so the packer can reach it, use it, and return to the box without stepping away. Aircosan machines use one-button start, a pressure gauge that shows status clearly, and a panel that groups the controls in the order they are used. The machine is operated from the front, which means it needs clearance on one side rather than all four.
The third thing is the vertical space. The bench surface is limited, but the space above and below the bench is usually not. A shelf above the bench can hold the paper roll or the tools. A shelf below the bench can hold the box supply. Moving those items off the surface frees bench space without moving the work. Aircosan desktop models weigh between roughly 29kg and 45kg, which means they can sit on a sturdy table beside the bench rather than on the bench itself.
The fourth thing is the traffic flow. A packing area has a path between the bench and the shipping area, and that path should stay clear. A machine placed in the path becomes an obstacle that the packer has to walk around. A machine placed against a wall or at the end of the bench keeps the path clear. The machine should be positioned so that the packer does not have to step into the path to use it.
The fifth thing is the paper roll storage. Paper rolls are heavy and take space. If the rolls are stored far from the machine, the operator has to walk to get them. If they are stored too close, they take up space that the machine needs. The practical solution is a shelf or a rack above or beside the machine, where the roll can be stored and loaded without walking. Suitable paper is generally ≤80gsm, with a paper roll length of about 1700m and a maximum unwind diameter of 500mm.
The sixth thing is the output handling. The material produced by the machine has to go somewhere before it goes in the box. If it goes on the bench, it competes with the other items. If it goes on the floor, it becomes a trip hazard. A small bin or a tray beside the machine holds the output and keeps it out of the way. Aircosan machines produce output that is clean and holds its shape, which means it can be stacked in a bin without collapsing.
The seventh thing is the alternative placement. Not every packing area has room for the machine at the bench. In some operations, the machine sits at the end of the row of benches, and the material is shared between the stations. That layout works when the packing line has multiple stations and the material can be distributed. The trade off is that the packers have to walk to the machine, which adds time, but it may be the only option in a tight space.
The eighth thing is the reality check. If none of those solutions creates enough space, the packing area may simply be too small for the machine. That is a valid conclusion, and it is better to reach it before the purchase than after. Aircosan shafts are large, one-piece units rather than thin blades, designed for a service life of over five years and processed through lathe machining, high-frequency treatment, quenching, blackening, and multiple other steps. The material is 40Cr rather than ordinary 45# steel. 40Cr has lower brittleness and stronger impact resistance, and its machining time is more than twice that of 45#. A durable machine is worth reorganizing the bench for, but only if the reorganization is possible. Aircosan machines have side sheet metal that fits tightly with no gaps, so paper dust cannot enter the gears and cause abnormal noise or long-term wear. That design means the machine does not need extra space for cleaning, which makes the placement easier. Aircosan machines use overload protection — when a jam occurs, the machine automatically cuts power and stops, protecting the motor. Aircosan runs its own parts processing factory, controlling part quality in-house rather than assembling from mixed outside sources. The company supports logo customization from one piece and color customization from ten pieces. Products carry CE, ROHS, and UKCA certifications and hold an exclusive EU patent. After-sales responds within 12 hours and connects customers directly with engineers.
For a packing supervisor, the practical approach is to clear the bench, rearrange the layout, use the vertical space, keep the traffic path clear, and provide a bin for the output. Those five steps usually create enough space for the machine. If they do not, the honest answer is that the packing area needs a different solution.
