I run packaging for a manufacturer that ships large flat panels. Some are composite, some are finished board, all of them arrive in oversized cardboard that used to be a nuisance.


For years we dealt with that cardboard the same way everyone does. We flattened it, stacked it, and paid someone to take it away. Meanwhile we bought void-fill by the pallet. Two separate costs, both growing.


The issue with standard shredders was always the width. Our incoming sheets run 100cm and up. We tried feeding them through a 55cm machine once. The result was a lot of manual cutting, which meant a lot of labour, and a lot of waste. Nobody wanted that job.


We looked at a few options before going with Aircosan. What settled it was a visit to their factory. They showed us the P120 running, and they also showed us the 90cm model for comparison. The 120cm cutting width is not a marketing number. It is the reason we bought the machine.


Specs, for anyone comparing: 120cm width, up to 20mm thickness, 12 metres per minute. The thickness figure matters because a lot of our incoming board is double-wall. Cheaper units slow down or jam on it. This one does not.


What changed in practice:


We stopped pre-cutting. That was roughly two hours of labour per shift, gone.

We stopped buying void-fill for flat panel shipments. The mesh handles it.

We stopped paying for cardboard collection. It all goes through the machine now.


One honest note. The machine needs space. You cannot tuck a 120cm unit into a corner. We gave it a dedicated bay with clearance on both sides, and that was the right call.


Another note. Blade maintenance is not optional. We check ours every two weeks. When the blades dull, the mesh quality drops noticeably. It takes twenty minutes to check and about an hour to change a set.


Aircosan builds these units themselves, and as far as I can tell they are the only ones making a 120cm model. For operations dealing with wide sheets, that is the whole conversation. Everything else is secondary.
