The paper roll is the only consumable on a honeycomb paper machine, and it determines both the material cost and the output quality. Choosing the wrong supplier creates problems that do not appear on delivery day. They appear weeks later, when the output drifts and nobody can explain why.

What the Machine Accepts

The machine accepts kraft paper up to 80gsm. Both virgin kraft paper and recycled paper work, which gives more flexibility on sourcing. The maximum unwind diameter is 500mm, with a paper core inner diameter of 75mm. A full roll is about 1700 meters long, which supports a long production run before the roll needs to be changed.

Those specifications are the starting point. The questions that matter are about consistency within the specification.

Why Consistency Matters More Than Grade

Two rolls of 80gsm paper from two suppliers can behave differently on the same machine. The difference comes from moisture content, fiber length, and how the paper was stored before delivery.

Paper that is too dry cracks when it passes through the die. Paper that is too damp forms poorly and loses strength after processing. Paper that has been stored in a humid warehouse absorbs moisture, and the first few meters of the roll behave differently from the rest.

A machine that supports automatic adaptation to paper thickness handles some of this variation. But no machine can compensate for paper that is outside the acceptable range entirely. The supplier's storage conditions matter as much as the paper grade.

What to Check Before Committing

The first thing to check is moisture content. Paper that has been stored properly has a stable moisture level. Paper that has been stored in a humid environment will vary from roll to roll.

The second thing to check is roll diameter consistency. A roll that is wound unevenly causes tension variation as it unwinds, and the tension variation shows up as inconsistent output. The maximum unwind diameter is 500mm, but the roll should be wound evenly within that diameter.

The third thing to check is core diameter. The paper core inner diameter should be 75mm. A core that is slightly off causes the roll to wobble as it unwinds, which affects the feed rate and the output consistency.

The fourth thing to check is roll length. A roll of about 1700 meters supports a long production run. A shorter roll requires more frequent changes, and each change is an interruption.

Why Recycled Paper Deserves a Second Look

Recycled paper is more variable than virgin stock, but it is also less expensive. A machine that adapts to paper thickness variation can use recycled paper without losing output quality. That flexibility matters for operations that want to control material costs without sacrificing consistency.

The practical approach is to test recycled paper from two or three suppliers before committing. The variation between suppliers is often larger than the variation between virgin and recycled paper from the same supplier.

What the Machine Delivers

A honeycomb paper machine with good pressure control delivers consistent output across different paper sources. Die-cutting speed is adjustable between 5 and 18 m/min, and die-cutting width is adjustable between 200 and 500mm. Power requirements are modest: 1.5kW total power at AC220V/50HZ, with no compressor, heating element, or adhesive system.

A compact footprint of just over 1 cubic meter, dimensions around 950x1150x1260mm and net weight near 502kg, means the machine can sit at the packing bench. A die that lasts about 1.0~1.3 million meters keeps the cells uniform across the entire run.

The Practical Approach

The useful approach is to order a trial roll from each supplier and run it through the machine under normal conditions. Compare the output consistency, the roll change frequency, and the material cost per parcel. The supplier that performs best on all three is the one to commit to.

The output from a honeycomb paper machine is biodegradable packaging and degradable packing material, a practical alternative to plastic packing materials, and it supports reuse cartons and paper recycling. A reliable paper supply is what makes that compliance decision practical over the long term.
