The Aircosan P50 sits in an unusual position. It is the entry point to industrial-grade cardboard processing, but it is also the machine that many operations never outgrow. Speaking to three different users makes that clear.
The first is a metal fabricator in Sheffield. They ship brackets, frames, and small welded assemblies. Their issue was surface damage—metal parts scratching each other in transit. Before the P50, they wrapped everything individually. Now they run incoming cardboard through the machine at 18 metres per minute and use the mesh as a separating layer. The parts arrive clean. Labour time per shipment dropped by roughly forty percent.
The second is a mid-sized e-commerce fulfilment centre outside Manchester. Their problem was peak season. Every November, void-fill consumption tripled, and their supplier could not always keep up. The P50 handles 55cm width and up to 15mm thick, which covers most of their incoming boxes. During peak, the machine runs nearly continuously. They told us the payback period was under five months, based on void-fill savings alone.
The third is a packaging service company that handles clients across several industries. They needed flexibility more than volume. The P50 became their standard machine because it handles both lightweight and heavy cardboard without adjustment, and because the output is consistent enough that they can quote clients on material usage per box size.
Three very different operations, one machine. That is not an accident. Aircosan builds the P50 in their own factory, and they also manufacture units up to 120cm wide. The engineering that goes into the larger machines informs the smaller ones.
A few practical observations that came up in all three conversations. The machine needs a proper power supply, not a shared circuit. Blade checks should be weekly, not monthly. And the cardboard needs to be reasonably clean—staples and tape should be removed first, or the blades will suffer.
None of the three users described the machine as perfect. All three described it as reliable. In industrial packaging, that is usually the thing that matters most.
